what we do

We from the Health Professionals for Peace use our profession, skills and knowledge to take part in doing well to our brothers by being a messenger of peace through health education. We focus more on our Barefoot Doctors Program. However, any person in the medical profession could take part also in the project.

We serve as one of the pillars of our sister organization the Warriors for Peace which also aims to change the outlook of people in conflict through the practice of aikido – the ‘Art of Peace’. We are reaching conflict-affected areas which are far from hospitals and health centers, giving them knowledge and skills to render basic emergency care and other health related matters like nutrition and hygiene.

HELP for Peace offers technology transfer in terms of basic health knowledge and skill that augment the villager’s methods of caring for every member in the village.

They are taught emergency skills with utilization of common available materials in the village. They are in turn taught to become promoters of health and healthy practices to their family and other villages. In the process the villagers share their knowledge of indigenous medicine and techniques of cure.

HELP for Peace works in villages that are most affected by conflict where health care is most wanting. HELP for Peace recognize the inherent richness of tradition and values of the residents and healers that its preservation is considered important.

Preliminary observations and discussions with the traditional healers have been made. HELP for Peace documents the traditional methods, the modalities used, the herbs and minerals that
are employed in the hilot's practice.
